Pavel Durov, the billionaire founder and CEO of Telegram, was arrested at Le Bourget Airport near Paris, France, on the evening of August 24, 2024.

The arrest was related to a preliminary investigation into the lack of moderation on Telegram, which French authorities believe has allowed criminal activities to flourish unchecked on the platform.

The charges potentially include complicity in drug trafficking, crimes against children, fraud, and failing to cooperate with law enforcement.

Durov was detained after his private jet landed from Azerbaijan, despite reportedly being aware of his wanted status in France.

This situation has drawn significant attention due to Telegram's role in global communication, particularly in regions like Russia and Ukraine, where it serves as a critical platform for uncensored information.

There is a report that he could get 20 years.
